Chúng được tạo ra nhằm nhiệm vụ duy nhất là phục vụ nhân loại. Truyện kể về một techor mã hiệu Ezc9 phục vụ cho sư đoàn 4 tại chiến trường phía đông. Trong một cuộc tập kích của địch, toàn bộ sư đoàn nó phục vụ đều bị tiêu diệt. Con techor bị hư hại nặng và cùng lúc nó gặp được Joseph người sĩ quan luôn làm nhiệm vụ bảo trì robot, người lính đó đã sửa Ezc9 trong tình trạng thương nặng. Trước khi qua đời ông đã nhờ con robot hãy về quê hương của ông, đưa vợ con Joseph đi thật xa, rời khỏi đất nước này, cuộc chiến chết tiệt này và trong hành trình đó nó đã gặp nhiều người, đi qua nhiều nơi và dần hiểu ra thế nào là một con người...…
