Elizabeth Newport has had a hard life. Her father left when she was five, and her mother died when she was six. She's been bullied in school, and it doesn't look like its ever going to stop. She's considered a delinquent, and it seems like all the adults in her life have given up on her. That is, until she meets her new teacher, Arthur Kirkland.
